RYA VHF/SRC Radio Courses
The introduction of G.M.D.S.S. (Global Maritime Distress & Safety System) has brought about the need to revise the radio operator qualifications. We now offer the RYA VHF GMDSS Short Range Certificate one-day course and assessment for £115 plus £70 licence fee (payable to the RYA).
These courses can take place in small intimate groups of 2 – 4 students, alternatively larger groups in modern purpose built classrooms at Pugneys Watersports Centre, Wakefield using Simrad RD80 and Standard Horizon Training Radios. Alternatively we can produce these courses for groups or individuals at a suitable venue of your choice by arrangement. This course is suitable for sailors, divers, sea kayakers, water sports enthusiasts, etc.
Course topics include: The basics of radio operation. The correct frequencies (channels) to be used. Distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures. Making ship to shore telephone calls. Digital Selective Calling (DSC) using simulators. Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB). Search and Rescue (SART).
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF: Up to 3 hours home study before attending the course. 7 hour classroom course. On successful completion of the course there is a separate assessment for your Certificate.
Please contact us for details, or to be kept informed of future dates.
*Please note* In order to comply with European Regulations, in January 2014, the duration of this course was extended and will also include a separate course instructor and assessor.
